About the BCSTRA
BCSTRA is a provincial association representing Short-Term Rental consumers, rental owners, and property managers. We are proud supporters of the thriving tourism industry in the province of BC, and believe that Short-Term Rentals are a crucial part of the broader accommodation ecosystem.
BCSTRA promotes the benefits to local economies and tourists alike of small, locally owned short-term rentals, and provides a collective voice to liaise with decision makers at local, regional and provincial levels.
Our mission is to bring together and support short-term rental owners and operators across British Columbia through advocacy, education, and a strong member community. We work for fair, practical policy, share best practices, and encourage responsible hosting so the STR sector can remain sustainable and positive for residents and visitors alike. Together, we help strengthen local economies and highlight the distinctive hospitality that makes B.C. special.
Diversifying Accommodation Options
Staying in a home away from home, where travellers can cook meals and live like locals is a unique and enjoyable experience that also helps keep travelling affordable for many people. As hotel prices can be out of reach from many travellers, particularly groups.
Helping Owners With Cost of Living
STR owners are often offering accommodations to help pay the bills or save for the future. For first-time home buyers, this helps pay their mortgage. For others, it’s a way to help save for retirement, or their children’s education. This entrepreneurial spirit is something we support and value.
Supporting Local Economies
Short-term rentals support local economies by engaging service providers - cleaners, landscapers, tradespeople, and property maintenance professionals. Through this ongoing collaboration, our members help generate employment, sustain small businesses, and circulate economic activity within their communities.
Responsibility & Standards
BCSTRA supports high-quality, professional short-term rental operations that are accountable to both the public and local stakeholders. By promoting best practices and regularly refining our guidelines, we work to uphold transparency, professionalism, and public confidence in our sector.
Representation & Voice
The association was established to ensure STR owners had meaningful representation - particularly following the introduction of municipal and provincial legislation in 2023 that placed the industry at risk. We advocate on behalf of our members, actively gathering their input and ensuring their perspectives are considered in regulatory and policy discussions.
Hospitality & Welcome
Short-term rental hosts are often a visitor’s first interaction with a destination. Our members take pride in offering welcoming, respectful, and memorable stays that reflect the warmth, character, and hospitality British Columbia is known for.
Fair Representation Matters
Join us in supporting balanced, informed policy-making. By working together, we can help shape regulations that are reasonable, equitable, and reflective of the professionals who operate within this industry.
